“University Lutheran Chapel of Berkeley is a community of faith at work in the world, actively engaged in social justice ministry. We are committed to being an inclusive and hospitable Christian community with Word and Sacrament at the center of our life together. We seek to cultivate spiritual growth, care, and renewal within the communities we serve.”
Mission & Growth in 2014: “Our life together in Christ finds expression in our love of God, each other, and our neighbors in our community.”
- Loving God: Sundays and spiritual practice | Deeper spiritual practice through a more robust Sunday morning schedule of activities including Word and Sacrament, regular Bible study, and time for meals and fellowship. We seek to engage faith through creative worship, engaged conversation, and hospitable hanging out together on Sundays.
- Loving each other: Small koinonia groups | We seek to build more caring relationships among people at the Chapel, connecting one another and building community, with special attention to the newcomers among us, young adults, families with children, retired folks, and progressive Christians.
- Loving our neighbors: Justice and advocacy on a local level | We seek to follow Christ “at work in the world” with clearer focus and more engaged activities and actions in the neighborhoods where we live with an emphasis on working together and making a difference.
- Loving the Chapel: Sustainability and Growth | We are transforming our organizational structure and processes of decision making to empower people, to be transparent to newcomers, to help us grow, and to be sustainable over the long term.
