Mr. Tom Poyner, Chaplain
Mr. Sam Tia, Chapel Sponsor
Lutheran/Episcopal Campus Ministry at Cal
2425 College Avenue
Berkeley, CA 94704
Dear Tom and Sam,
We write to you to officially inform you that your request for a grant of $2,000 has been approved by the Endowment Team of University Lutheran Chapel of Berkeley. Checks will be made available in the fall and the spring semesters to cover the costs for the four “relational evangelists” for the 2011-2012 academic year.
We are very pleased to support this project as outlined in your proposal. We are intrigued by the idea of “narrative training” as an intentional method to empower students “to tell their story and then go forth and work with the friends in connecting the story of faith, the story of self, and the story of now.”
In making this grant, the Endowment Team reaffirms the Chapel’s long-standing commitment to campus ministry, especially at this moment as we are more formally fostering a joint Lutheran/Episcopal presence at CAL. We were inspired to learn that the Diocese of California has made possible an intern to work as a part of the campus ministry team and are honored to be associated with the strengthening of campus ministry happening because of this historic coordination.
In upcoming publications, letters, and newsletters, and on the website and facebook page, we request that you recognize this generous grant from the Endowment Fund of University Lutheran Chapel of Berkeley as part of the Chapel’s commitment to a joint Episcopal/Lutheran presence at CAL. Additionally, we invite you to report back to the team within the year on the benefits of this grant received.
The members of the Endowment Team
Jen Afdahl Rice
The Rev. Jeff Johnson, Pastor
Luis Ramirez, Treasurer
